I can’t tell you how many times I’m perched over a delicious fruit plate at brunch with friends when someone gasps audibly as I throw a pinch of salt on my cantelope, honeydew, and watermelon.
Usually the person who would gasp isn’t from the south so I have to teach them the simplest and most delicious trick for ‘upgrading’ a delicious piece of melon. I learned this trick from my relatives in Southern Virginia at a summer BBQ and I haven’t eaten ‘naked’ watermelon since!
Just toss the smallest pinch of salt on your watermelon, cantelope, or honeydew melon the next time you’re prepping for your snack and you’ll see the difference! The smallest bit of salt will really bring out the juicy sweetness. I love sea salt, but any salt will do.
