Warmer weather means shorter hemlines. You don’t want to be caught with legs that are anything less than silky smooth, so today we’re talking about our tried and true tricks to getting the best and closest shave – and it is so easy!
#1.) Invest in a good razor! We tried for years to justify buying the generic drugstore brand of razors but lately we’ve realized that they just don’t cut it. A cheap razor will leave you razor burned or in Claudia’s case; with ankles that look like they were the victims of our cat Mac! Our favorite razor is the Schick Quattro for women. Two of the top reasons we like this so much is because it has 4 blades and a rotating head. But we LOVE it because it gets such a close shave – we don’t have to shave every day! For two dark-skinned brunettes like us – that is HUGE!!!
#2.) Our second tip is to prep your shaving area with a little bit of hair conditioner. This will soften the hair making it easier to shave and less likely for you to get razor burn. If you are in a pinch and have no shaving cream (see Tip #3!) then totally feel free to use conditioner as your make-shift shaving cream! Wow, what a multi-tasker!
#3.) In order to really get the closest shave and to prevent razor burn and cuts, use a shaving cream! We’ve been gulity of using bar soap in the past and can tell you from personal experience that there is a reason all the lady mags tell you not to do this – it ends badly for your legs! Claudia is a fan of shaving cream from a can like Skintimate’s Raspberry Rain. I’m more of the cream variety, it’s called ‘moisturizing cream shave’ – it comes out like a thick and creamy shower gel, and you only need a little. Both smell amazing and are under $5. Check out our fave-for-shave creams here!
#4.) Finally, if you are going to get a great razor like the Schick Quattro; then make it last by taking good care of it. There is no reason this razor can’t last you a few weeks without getting dull. You want to make sure to shave from the ‘bottom up’ when you are in the shower. Meaning, start with your legs, then do your bikini area, and finally your under arms. Your armpits have the most sweatglands meaning there may be more bacteria there. Bacteria can cause your razor to rust faster. Also, store your razor in a dry place after you are finished shaving – this will also prevent rust and dulling of the blades.
